Riverbend at Capital breaks ground

It was another beautiful day in Michigan when colleagues, friends and family, investors, partners, and supporters gathered at the site of Riverbend at Capital, formerly known as Blue Light.  Riverbend at Capital will offer 80 new affordable and workforce housing apartments.  It will offer its residents a community gathering space as well as a fitness room.  Co-located on the site will be a brand-new childcare center by Bright Light Early Care and Education, offering up to 84 spots for children ages 0-5, with additional spots for before- and after-school care.  Edison Community Partners is proud to partner with Hollander Development and Battle Creek Unlimited to bring this project to life.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Lead developer, Jason Muniz, addressed the crowd, thanking all those who supported the existence of this project.  Riverbend took many years and overcame many roadblocks to come to fruition.  Edison Community Partners remains grateful to all of our partners, including Battle Creek Unlimited, the City of Battle Creek, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, LISC, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, Michigan State Housing Development Authority, Cinnaire, CPC, Independent Bank, West Shore Bank, and the Calhoun County Land Bank Authority.

 

 

 

 

 

 

We are thankful to our partners who spoke about our collaboration, the hard work that has been put in, and the vision that this project is a part of. We can’t wait to see individuals and families living in these homes, cared-for children attending the early learning center, and a community revived partially because of this investment!

Construction started on the site mid-July.  Construction completion is planned for January 2028.
